James Connolly Obituary: Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Remembered for a Life of Service and Leadership

In 2011, James fulfilled a longtime goal by becoming a Massachusetts State Trooper. Over the years, he accepted a variety of challenging assignments, demonstrating exceptional investigative skills and earning the respect of colleagues throughout the department.
His career included service with specialized enforcement teams before joining the Middlesex State Police Detective Unit, where he worked as a homicide investigator. In that role, he assisted with complex investigations, providing compassionate service to victims’ families while pursuing justice with professionalism and determination.
James was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2021 and assumed leadership of the Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Team (C.I.N.R.E.T. North), part of the New England High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force. As a supervisor, he coordinated multi-agency investigations targeting major narcotics trafficking and organized criminal activity, mentoring younger officers while leading by example.
