The Chesapeake, Virginia, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Dylan Wiley Dameron Farrer, who passed away on June 28, 2026, at the age of 24 following a tragic car accident. His unexpected passing has left family, friends, students, fellow educators, and athletes grieving the loss of a young man whose compassion, leadership, and dedication touched countless lives.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Dylan was the beloved son of John Dameron Farrer and Jennifer Kay Grubbs Farrer. A 2020 graduate of Hickory High School, he devoted his career to serving young people as a teacher’s assistant with Chesapeake Public Schools while also making a lasting impact as a wrestling coach at Indian River Middle School.
In addition to coaching wrestling, Dylan shared his love of baseball by coaching alongside his father at Oscar Smith High School and Indian River Middle School. Whether on the wrestling mat or the baseball field, he was known for encouraging young athletes to work hard, believe in themselves, and compete with integrity. His mentorship extended far beyond sports, as he became a trusted role model for many students.
Friends, colleagues, and former players remember Dylan for his kind heart, positive attitude, and willingness to help anyone in need. He had a natural ability to connect with people of all ages, making students feel valued and supported while earning the respect of parents, fellow coaches, and educators throughout the Chesapeake community.
Above all, Dylan cherished his family. He is survived by his parents, his sisters Ashley Pothier (Matt) and Harvest Lee (Keanu), his brother Wiley Farrer, his niece Millie Pothier, his grandmothers Rhoda Farrer and Patricia Grubbs, his maternal great-grandmother Mary Kuehnel, and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Dylan’s life at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Briggs Funeral Home and Crematory in Chesapeake, with visitation taking place the evening before.
In honor of Dylan’s lifelong commitment to mentoring young people, memorial contributions may be made to the Dylan Farrer Memorial Fund, which will provide youth athletic scholarships for aspiring student-athletes in the Chesapeake area.
Although his life was tragically cut short, Dylan Farrer’s legacy of kindness, mentorship, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, students, athletes, and the entire Chesapeake community. May he rest in peace.
